GENESIS CHAPTER 10: THE DISPERSION OF THE NATIONS AND LANGUAGES

Introduction: This chapter explains where the nations originated and who their founding fathers were.
1.  Now these are the generations of the sons of Noah: Shem, Ham, and Japheth: and   unto them were sons born after the flood. 2. The sons of Japheth; Gomer, and Magog, and Ma’dai, and Javan, and Tubal, and Meshech, and Tiras. 3. And the sons of Gomer; Ashkenaz and Raphath, and Togarmah. 4. And the sons of Javan; Elishah,Tarshish, Kittim, and Dodanim. 5. By these were the isles of the Gentiles divided in their lands; every one after his tongue, after their families, in their nations.

Noah=Japheth=Javan=Elishah, Tarshish, Kittim and Doanim= The Gentile nations. Here also the scripture eludes
to the fact that the gentiles were divided by lands and every one after his tongue, in their nations. So, here is where the languages of our world as we know it came from. Descendants: Japheth descendants are thought    to have settled in Europe, India and Persia.
 Noah=Japheth=Madai=Medes.
Noah=Japheth=Gomer=Togarmak= the settlers were Armenian. Other sons of Gomer= the Caspian and Black Sea areas to Germany. . (Commentary on the Books of Genesis by David E. Pratte, 2010, 2013)
Noah=Javan=Kittim=Island of Cyprus.Other descendants of Javan = Greece  ;Noah=Javan=Tarshish= Southern Spain

 6. And the sons of Ham; Cush, and Miz’raim, and Phut, and Ca’naan. 7. And the sons of Cush; Seba, and Hav’-ilah, and Sabtah, and Ra’amah, and Sabte’chah: and the sons of Raamah; Sheba, and Dedan. 8. And Cush begat Nim-rod: he began to be a mighty one in the earth.  9. He was a mighty hunter before the Lord: wherefore it is said, “Even as Nim’-rod the mighty hunter before the Lord”. 10. And the beginning of his kingdom was Babel and Er’ech, and Accad, and Caineh, in the land of Shi’nar. 11. Out of that land went forth Asshur, and builded Nin’eveh, and the city Re’hoboth, and Calah, 12. And Re’sen between Nin’eveh and Calah: the same is a great city. 13. And Miz’raim begat Ludim, and An’amim, and Leha’bim, and Naphtu’him, 14. And Path-ru’-sim, and Casluhim, (out of whom came Phil’istim,) and Caph’torim.

This paragraph tells us that Noah= Cush= Raamah = Nimrod (who was mighty before the Lord and whose kingdom was Babel, Erech, Accad and Caineh in the land of Shinar. His descendants settled Ethiopia, Arabia and Mesopotamia. Nimrod built two great nations that later would become worldwide empires. Among the cities he built were Babel, Shinar (Sumer), Nineveh and Assyria.
Noah=Ham=Cush=Mizraim (the founding fathers of Egypt) = Casluhim=Philistines descendants (ref. Commentary on the Books of Genesis by David Pratte, 2010, 2013)

 15. And Ca’naan begat Sidon his firstborn, and Heth, 16. And the Jeb’usite, and the Amorite, and the Gir’gasite, 17. And the Hivite, and the Arkite, and the Sinite, 18. And the Ar’vadite, and the Zem’arite, and the Hamathite: and afterward were the families of the Ca’naanites spread abroad. 19. And the border of the Ca’naanites was from Sidon; as thou comest to Gerar, unto Gaza as thou goest unto Sodom, and Gomor’rah, and Admah, and Zebo’im, even unto Lasha. 20. These are the sons of Ham after their families, after their tongues, in their countries and in their nations.                                                                                                                                                                                Noah=Ham=Canaan=Siden=Phoenicians                                          Noah=Ham=Canaan=Palestine

 21. Unto Shem also, the father of all the children of Eber, the brother of Ja’pheth the elder even to him were children born.   22. The children of Shem; Elam, and Asshur, and Arphax’ad and Lud, and Aram. 23. And the children of Aram; Uz, and Hul, and Ge’ther, and Mash. 24. And Arphax’ad begat Salah; and Salah begat Eber. 25. And unto Eber were born two sons: the name of one son was Peleg; for in his day was the earth divided; and his brother’s name was Joktan. 26. And Joktan begat Almodad, and Sheleph, and Hazarma’veth. And Jerah, 27. And Hador’am, and U’zal, and Diklah, 28. And Obal and Abim’ael, and Sheba, 29. And O’phir, and Hav’ilah and Jobab; all these were the sons of Joktan. 30. And their dwelling was from Me’sha, as thou goest unto Sephar amount of the east. 31. These are the sons of Shem, after their families, after their tongues, in their lands, after their nations. 32. These are the families of the sons of Noah, after their generations, in their nations; and by these were the nations divided in the earth after the flood.

Noah= Shem=Aram=Uz, Hul, Gether, Mash= Syrians (northeast of Palestine)
Noah=Shem=Elam= Northeast of the Persian Gulf
Noah=Shem=Asshur= Assyrians
Noah=Shem=Arphaxad=Salah=Eber=Peleg and Joktan=Sheba (from came the queen of Sheba) and Ophir (the origin of Hebrew) these descendants settled from Mesha to Sephar in the east.

In this paragraph it mentions  in the day of Peleg the earth was divided; some have come to think that that may have been the time that the continents drifted apart. There is no evidence in the scriptures to back up that statement. However, the division of the earth among the different new nations is spoken about here and that may be the true meaning behind that statement. (Ref. Commentary on the Books of Genesis by David Pratte, 2010, 2013)

The Road to Salvation (KJV)

Romans 3: 23, 24 “For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God; Being justified freely by His grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus.”

Romans 5:8 “But God commended His love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.”

John 3:15 “For God so loved the world That He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life.”

1 John 4:9”In this was manifested the love of God toward us, because that God sent his only begotten Son into the world that we might live through Him.”

John 6: 47, 48 “Verily, verily, I say unto you He that believeth on me hath everlasting life.  I am that bread of life.”

Romans 10:9 – 14 “That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised Him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. 10 For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. 11 For the scripture saith, whosoever believeth on Him shall not be ashamed. 12 For there is no difference between the Jew and the Greek; for the same Lord over all is rich unto all that call upon him. 13 For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved. 14. How then shall they call on him in whom they have not believed: and how shall they believe in him of whom they have not heard: and how shall they hear without a preacher?”

II Corinthians 5:17 “Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.”

If you are not saved, I pray you will accept Christ as your Savior to day. We are not promised another minute on this earth. We are but on a journey, passing though this world to the next, and you have a choice of where you will spend eternity. I pray you choose to spend it in Heaven with the Father, and the Son and the Holy Spirit and all those who believe that Jesus is the Son of God and paid our sin debt for us.
