Proverbs Chapter 2

1.My son, if you receive my words, and hide my commandments with thee; 2. So that thou incline thine ear unto wisdom, and apply thine heart to understanding;
3. Yea, if thou criest after knowledge, and liftest up thy voice for understanding; 4. If thou seekest her as silver and searchest for her as for hid treasure;
5. Then shalt thou understand the fear of the Lord, and find the knowledge of God.
 6. For the Lord giveth wisdom: out of his mouth cometh knowledge and understanding.
7. He layeth up sound wisdom for the righteous: he is a buckler to them that walk uprightly.
8. He keepeth the paths of judgement, and preserveth the way of his saints.
9. Then shalt thou understand righteousness, and judgement, and equity; yea, every good path.

 The instructions here starts with learning and understanding God commandments, learning what they mean and why-- Proverbs helps to get us to understand what God is talking about. He tells us that we are to hear wisdom and apply our hearts to understand it.

  Verses 3 and 4 says to cry after knowledge. Have you ever seen a baby cry after its mother when she leaves him or her? They are hurt they don’t understand she will be back, all they know is that they want her, so badly. Cry after knowledge…seek
for understanding by lifting up your voice (in prayer. Jesus tells us “ ask and ye shall receive”). Ask questions, look for answers in God’s word, as one searches for hidden treasure, dedicated, not giving up.

      So where do we find wisdom and understanding? Verse 6 says the Lord gives it…His teachings. How do you find it? By reading the Bible. His teachings are sound and solid, to the upright he is a buckler. (Which means He will be your shield to support, to defend, and protection for you.)
He keeps the paths of judgement=His laws (commandments and statutes) are unchanging. The way for His saints is set apart, it is preserved.

      Verse 9 .After we hear His wisdom and hid them or learn them and put them in our hearts. Practice the understanding of that wisdom; seek it as a hidden treasure and cry after knowledge as a child that needs its mother. After we understand to fear the Lord God,  because His judgement is final and complete and He is very powerful; after we understand His love for the saints to be our protector and preserver. Then and only then can we begin to understand righteousness, judgement and equity. (Equities definition is=a legally valid right or claim. This is talking about we are bought by a price. Our sin debt is to spend eternity in continual torment in hell. Jesus paid that debt for us all with His own pure, sinless blood, and He concurred death and hell and arose the third day after His crucifixion and is now alive and well and waiting for us in heaven to spend eternity. He is our bridegroom and we are His bride.)
 10. When wisdom entereth into thine heart, and knowledge is pleasant unto thy soul; 11. Discretion shall preserve thee, understanding shall keep thee.
  This verse is talking about keeping yourself out of trouble and making the correct decisions to stay out of trouble. With wisdom in your heart (the Holy Spirit), and the knowledge of God’s word, which is pleasant unto your soul deep inside of you, you feel happy and at peace.( Discretion’s definition is 1. The power or right to decide or act according to one’s own judgement, freedom of judgment or choice; 2. The quality of being discreet, especially with reference to one’s own actions or speech; prudence or decorum.) So then when your heart is filled with the Holy Spirit (wisdom) than your free will, will choose to be discreet with your actions, speech, prudence or decorum. Understanding this will keep you stable, grounded in the firm foundation of God’s statutes that will guide you to a better life by making better decisions.
12. To deliver thee from the way of the evil man, from the man that speaketh forward things;
 13. Who leave the paths of uprightness, to walk in the ways of darkness:
14. Who rejoice to do evil, and delight in the forwardness of the wicked;
15. Whose ways are crooked, and they forward in their paths; 16. To deliver thee from the strange woman, even from the stranger which flattereth with her words;
 17. Which forsaketh the guide of her youth and forgetteth the covenant of her God.
18. For her house inclineth unto death, and her paths unto the dead. 19 None that go unto her return again, neither take they hold of the paths of life.

  Here God describes those that we are to stay away from.( But you say that, that sounds like some of your friend…well then either you spend eternity in hell with your friends that practice sin willing, or you can chose to save your own soul and possible theirs as well by sharing God’s word with them.)
       God’s knowledge, the understanding of it, wisdom and discretion will deliver you from evil people, the people who choose to leave the paths of uprightness and who walk in darkness. They rejoice in doing evil and delight in the doing of wicked things. They do not follow the law of man or God, the women who seduce men to do evil against themselves, in the end lose all that is good in their lives. We have a choice to allow ourselves to do evil or not. But, it is a lot easier with Jesus as your savior and the Holy Spirit in your heart…Jesus has already defeated evil.

20. That thou mayest walk in the way of good men, and keep the paths of the righteous. 21. For, the upright shall dwell in the land, and the perfect shall remain in it. 22. But the wicked shall be cut off from the earth, and the transgressors shall be rooted out of it.

        Here the author is talking about eternity. God’s statutes and commandments will help you to become a good men or woman. Those that keep the righteous path will dwell in the land and the perfect shall remain in it.(This land is the new earth after this one is destroyed by fire) But the wicked shall be cut off from the earth and the transgressors shall be rooted out of it.(This is the judgement before Jesus and the book with the believers names written in it. ) We have a choice. Where to spend eternity. This world is temporary, it will pass away some day. Not in my time you say? We are not promised one more minute on this earth. Anyone can be taken from here by health issues, accidents or on purpose. But I believe Jesus is on His way. Our world is so wicked and corrupt, truly He is heartbroken for man. He heard Sodom and Gomorrah’s cries of wickedness.  Our government made a change in  God’s law concerning the marriage of man and woman. We kill innocent babies at the whim of the mothers who don’t want them. Children are abused every day. Why was Noah’s family the only one save from the flood? The earth had to be cleansed from sin. People had forgotten God. We have taken God out of our schools by the few that don’t believe in Him but have the bigger voices. The time is close and I thank my God that I know where I am going when this world is no longer here. I saw a saying on face book, I don’t know the author but it said “I would rather live my life believing in God and get to heaven and find I was right, than to live without God and get to heaven and find out that I was wrong.”  Believe me brethren, faith is so much more than an insurance plan. Its rewards far out shine any of this worlds, and our God is such a loving and patient God.

             But there is a limit to everything even God’s longsuffering against sin.

The Road to Salvation (KJV)

Romans 3: 23, 24 “For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God; Being justified freely by His grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus.”
Romans 5:8 “But God commended His love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.”
John 3:15 “For God so loved the world That He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life.”
1 John 4:9”In this was manifested the love of God toward us, because that God sent his only begotten Son into the world that we might live through Him.”
John 6: 47, 48 “Verily, verily, I say unto you He that believeth on me hath everlasting life.  I am that bread of life.”
Romans 10:9 – 14 “That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised Him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. 10 For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. 11 For the scripture saith, whosoever believeth on Him shall not be ashamed. 12 For there is no difference between the Jew and the Greek; for the same Lord over all is rich unto all that call upon him. 13 For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved. 14. How then shall they call on him in whom they have not believed: and how shall they believe in him of whom they have not heard: and how shall they hear without a preacher?”
II Corinthians 5:17 “Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.”
If you are not saved, I pray you will accept Christ as your Savior to day. We are not promised another minute on this earth. We are but on a journey, passing though this world to the next, and you have a choice of where you will spend eternity. I pray you choose to spend it in Heaven with the Father, and the Son and the Holy Spirit and all those who believe that Jesus is the Son of God and paid our sin debt for us.
