GENESIS CHAPTER 8: NEW BEGINNINGS IN A NEW WORLD
Introduction This chapter tells the continuing story of Noah and his
families journey in the ark and how God prepares the new earth for them
1.
And God remembered Noah, and every living thing,
and all the cattle that was with him in the ark: and God made a wind to pass
over the earth, and the waters assuaged; 2. The fountains also of the deep and
the windows of heaven were stopped, and the rain from heaven was restrained; 3.
And the waters returned from off the earth continually: and after the end of
the hundred and fifty days the waters were abated. 4. And the ark rested in the
seventh month, on the seventeenth day of the month, upon the mountains of
Ararat. 5. And the waters decreased continually until the tenth month: in the
tenth month, on the first day of the month, were the tops of the mountains
seen.
This paragraph tells us that God
stopped the waters from coming up from the deep and restrained the rain from
heaven so that the waters may start receding. We are also told that the ark
rested on a mountain in the mountains of Ararat which is in to-days Turkey, and
that it rested after 5 months of floating in the world wide sea. (the rain
started in the 2nd month 17th day and then stopped on the
7th month the 17th day) Then it took another 5 months for
the tops of the mountains to be seen.
6. And it came to pass at the end of forty days, that Noah
opened the window of the ark which he had made: 7. And he sent forth a raven,
which went forth to and fro, until the waters were dried up from off the earth.
8. Also he sent forth a dove from him, to see if the waters were abated from
off the face of the ground; 9. But the dove found no rest for the sole of her
feet, and she returned unto him into the ark, for the waters were on the face
of the whole earth: then he put forth his hand, and took her, and pulled her in
unto him into the ark. 10.
And he stayed yet other seven days; and again he
sent forth the dove out of the ark; 11. And the dove came in to him in the
evening; and, lo, in her mouth was an olive leaf plucked off: so Noah knew that
the waters were abated from off the earth. 12. And he stayed yet other seven
days; and sent forth the dove; which returned not again unto him anymore.
As we see here this
paragraph recaps the beginning of the rains and gives more complete detail of
what Noah did near the end of their trip after the Ark came to rest. The dove,
as we are told here went out three times and returned twice. But the second
time it brought back an Olive leaf. This tells us that God was preparing the
earth for the family to start their new beginning as He did for Adam. But it
was not yet totally ready because the waters were still receding.
13. And it came to pass in the six hundredth and first year,
in the first month, the first day of the month, the waters were dried up from
off the earth: and Noah removed the covering of the ark, and looked, and,
behold, the face of the ground was dry. 14. And in the second month, on the
seven and twentieth day of the month, was the earth dried.
On Noah’s 601st
year on the first month on the first day, (601/1/1) the waters were all dried
and the family was able to go out from the ark and release the animals into
their new home. On the second month and 27th day (601/02/27)
the waters were in there final places and the
earth was dry. Therefore the animals and the families could explore the earth
for their new homes.
15. And God spake unto Noah saying,” 16. “Go forth of the ark, thou, and thy wife, and thy sons, and
the sons’ wives with thee. 17. Bring forth with thee every living thing that is
with thee, of all flesh, both of fowl, and of cattle, and of every creeping
thing that creepeth upon the earth; that they may breed abundantly in the
earth, and be fruitful and multiply on the earth”.
God gives Noah and his
family and the animals the same commandment that He gave to
Adam and Eve, which
was to go forth be fruitful and multiply on the earth.
18. And Noah went forth, and his sons, and his wife, and his
sons’ wives with him: 19. Every beast, every creeping thing, and every fowl,
and whatsoever creepeth upon the earth, after their kinds, went forth out of
the ark.
20. And Noah builded an altar unto the Lord; and took of
every clean beast, and of every clean fowl, and offered burnt offerings on the
altar. 21. And the Lord smelled a sweet savor; and the Lord said in his heart, “I will not again curse the ground any more for man’s sake;
for the imagination of man’s heart is evil from his youth; neither will I again
smite any more everything living, as I have done. 22. While the earth
remaineth, seed time and harvest, and cold and heat, and summer and winter, and
day and night shall not cease.”
In this closing verse
God makes a promise to never again to destroy man, animal or the earth with a
flood as this one was. (This verse gives evidence of a worldwide flood because
we now have local floods and this would make God a liar, which He is not. His
testimony to us is imprinted in the sky after every rain storm or shower, it’s
the rainbow. The first thing Noah did after getting the animals off the ark as
God commanded him to do was to make a alter to God and give offerings to
worship God.
The Road to Salvation (KJV)
Romans 3: 23, 24 “For all
have sinned, and come short of the glory of God; Being justified freely by His
grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus.”
Romans 5:8 “But God commended
His love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.”
John 3:15 “For God so loved
the world That He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believeth in Him
should not perish, but have everlasting life.”
1 John 4:9”In this was
manifested the love of God toward us, because that God sent his only begotten
Son into the world that we might live through Him.”
John 6: 47, 48 “Verily,
verily, I say unto you He that believeth on me hath everlasting life. I am that bread of life.”
II Corinthians 5:17
“Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed
away; behold, all things are become new.”
If you are not saved, I pray you will
accept Christ as your Savior to day. We are not promised another minute on this
earth. We are but on a journey, passing though this world to the next, and you
have a choice of where you will spend eternity. I pray you choose to spend it
in Heaven with the Father, and the Son and the Holy Spirit and all those who
believe that Jesus is the Son of God and paid our sin debt for us.
