GENESIS CHAPTER 5:ADAM'S FAMILY TREE

Introduction: The Generations from Adam to Noah.

1. This is the book of the generations of Adam. In the day that God created man, in the likeness of God made He him; 2. Male and female created He them; and blessed them, and called their name Adam, in the day when they were created.

 3. And Adam lived an hundred and thirty years and begat a son in his own likeness,
after his image; and called his name Seth: 4. And the days of Adam after he had begotten Seth were eight hundred years: and he begat sons and daughters. 5. And all the days that Adam lived were nine hundred and thirty years: and he died. 6. And Seth lived an hundred and five years, and begat Enos: 7. And Seth lived after he begat Enos eight hundred and seven year, and begat sons and daughters. 8. And all the days of Seth were nine hundred and twelve years: and he died.

Adam's son Seth (in the Hebrew Bible his name is Shet) was born when Adam was 130 yrs + 800 yrs.  afterwards having more children the total years of Adams life was 930 years. Our Bible does not say what  happened to Adam and Eve during those years from the time of the death of Abel until Adam knew his wife again. I would think that the lose of a child and the banishment of another had to be a very devastating and emotional time for Adam and Eve.  In the generations of Adam it starts with Seth, his first two son and any other children are not mentions (though there is mention of two daughters in the Hebrew traditions).

Abel was not married at the time of his death and had no offspring. Cain's family was the essence of evil and all died in the flood in Noah's time. So then, Seth's family is where Adams family tree begins.

Seth had his first child at 105 years of age + 807 more years having children. So the total years of Seth life span were 912 years.

9.. And Enos lived ninety years, and begat Cainan (in Hebrew Bible it is spelt Kenan): 10. And Enos lived after he begat Canian eight hundred and fifteen years, and begat sons and daughter: 11. And all the days of Enos were nine hundred and five years: and he died.

Compared to others in his family  Enosh was a teenager at 90 when he had his first child Cainan. He lived another 815 years fathering more sons and daughters so his life span was 905 years

 12. And Cainan lived seventy years, and begat Mahalaleel(Hebrew Bible is spelt Mahalal'el). 13. And Cainan lived after he begat Mahalaleel eight hundred and forty years, and begat sons and daughters. 14. And all the days of Cainan were nine hundred and ten years: and he died.

As with his father Cainan had his first child very early at age 70 and lived another 840 years fathering sons and daughters by and he died at the age 910.

15. And Mahalaleel lived sixty and five years, and begat Jared( Hebrew Bible has his name spelt Yered): 16. And Mahalaleel lived after he begat Jared eight hundred and thirty years, and begat sons and daughters: 17. And all the years of Mahalaleel were eight hundred ninety and five years: and he died.

Here we see the trend continuing as Mahalaleel had his first child at the age of 65 and begat more sons and daughters for 830 years. His life was 895 years.

   18. And Jared lived an hundred sixty and two years, and begat Enoch (In the Hebrew Bible it is spelt Hanokh): 19. And Jared lived after he begat Enoch eight hundred years, and begat sons and daughters: 20. And all the days of Jared were nine hundred and sixty and two years: and he died.

Jared's first child was born when he was 162, maybe he did not decide to get married until later in life, then lived 800 more years having more sons and daughters until he died at the age of 962.

21. And Enoch lived sixty and five years and begat Methuselah: 22. And Enoch walked with God after be begat Methuselah three hundred years, and begat sons and daughters: 23.And all the days of Enoch were three hundred and sixty and five years: 24. And Enoch walked with God: and he was not, for God took him. 25. And Methuselah lived an hundred eighty and seven years, and begat Lamech: 26. And Methuselah lived after he begat Lamech seven hundred eighty and two years, and begat sons and daughters: 27. And all the days of Methuselah were nine hundred sixty and nine years: and he died.

Enoch was also a young father at the age of 65 when he fathered Methuselah. He lived one year for each day of our year and then God took him to heaven in transformation, his life span here on earth was 365 years.

Methuselah fathered his first child at the age of 187 years old and he lived another 782 years begetting more sons and daughters: He was the longest living person even unto this day.

  28. And Lamech lived an hundred eight and two years, and begat a son: 29. And he called his name Noah, saying, “This same shall comfort us concerning our work and toil of our hands, because of the ground which the Lord hat cursed.
30. And Lamech lived after he begat Noah five hundred ninety and five years, and begat sons and daughters: 31. And all the days of Lamech were seven hundred seventy and seven years: and he died.32. And Noah was five hundred years old: and Noah begat Shem, Ham, and Japheth.

Lamech also waited to become a father when he was 182 years old, and lived another 595 years and was 777 years old when he died.

Noah was 500 years old when he father Shem, Ham and Japheth, and live 350 years after the flood. Noah's life span was 950 years.

The Road to Salvation (KJV)

Romans 3: 23, 24 “For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God; Being justified freely by His grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus.”

Romans 5:8 “But God commended His love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.”

John 3:15 “For God so loved the world That He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life.”

1 John 4:9”In this was manifested the love of God toward us, because that God sent his only begotten Son into the world that we might live through Him.”

John 6: 47, 48 “Verily, verily, I say unto you He that believeth on me hath everlasting life.  I am that bread of life.”

Romans 10:9 – 14 “That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised Him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. 10 For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. 11 For the scripture saith, whosoever believeth on Him shall not be ashamed. 12 For there is no difference between the Jew and the Greek; for the same Lord over all is rich unto all that call upon him. 13 For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved. 14. How then shall they call on him in whom they have not believed: and how shall they believe in him of whom they have not heard: and how shall they hear without a preacher?”

II Corinthians 5:17 “Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.”

If you are not saved, I pray you will accept Christ as your Savior to day. We are not promised another minute on this earth. We are but on a journey, passing though this world to the next, and you have a choice of where you will spend eternity. I pray you choose to spend it in Heaven with the Father, and the Son and the Holy Spirit and all those who believe that Jesus is the Son of God and paid our sin debt for us.
